Announcement: The 12th Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition

The 12th edition of the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition is now open for registration! This competition offers a unique opportunity to simulate the procedures of complaints before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and provides participants with practical interactions with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Key Event Details:

  • Registration Deadline: Interested participants are encouraged to register by the 30th of October 2023, until 23:59 CET, to secure their spot in this competition.
  • Written Submission Deadline: Mark your calendars for the written submission deadline on 11 December 2023.
  • Regional Rounds: The regional rounds are scheduled to take place in Ankara, Dublin, and St.Gallen from 2 to 25 February 2024.
  • Final Oral Round: The Final Oral Round takes place in Strasbourg from 27th to 31st May 2024. This five-day event includes Preliminary Rounds, Quarter Finals, and Semi Finals held at the Palace of Europe, leading up to the Grand Final at the European Court Of Human Rights.

Honoring Helga Pedersen: The competition is named in honor of Helga Pedersen, a Danish judge with an illustrious and inspiring legal career. In 1971, Helga Pedersen made history by becoming the first female judge at the European Court of Human Rights. She also achieved highly prestigious honors, including receiving a gold medal from the Association of World Peace Through Law and becoming the first female commander of the Order of the Dannebrog, as well as being a Commander of the 1st Degree. Her legacy continues to serve as a role model for law students not only in Europe but across the world.
