It goes without saying that digital technology is now an essential branch of the legal field: legaltech, blockchain, data protection, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and so on. Therefore, we are watching the development of the Digital Law Moot Court Competition (DLMCC) – the first mock trial competition in digital law – with interest.
The Digital Law Moot Court Competition (DLMCC) was created in 2016 by Idest (Institut Droit, Espaces, Technologies) with the aim of promoting digital law in all its dimensions through a simulated trial between law students but also, from other disciplines, and from various universities in France and abroad.
Based on a fictitious case on a topical theme, given at the beginning of the year, a small group of students must write dissertations and then compete against the teams of other universities by pleading before juries composed of professors and professionals. Previous editions have focused on the processing of personal data via connected objects (2016), a cyberattack of a fully connected neighborhood (2017), robot law and artificial intelligence (2018), cyber espionage and cyber defense (2019), the regulation of fake news (2020) and contact-tracing applications in the context of the fight against Covid-19 (2021). You will find the 2022 case here.
Final oral arguments before a jury of professionals and academics will take place on June 23.
