We are excited to announce the Jean-Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition – a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the practical world of international law.
The Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition was first held in 1989 on the initiative of the French Institute of Humanitarian Law in Clermont-Ferrand. Given its name in honour of the author of the Principles of International Humanitarian Law and the Commentaries on the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols.
Application Deadline: Apply now, as applications are open until November 8, 2023 (17:00 CUT).
Selection Results: Candidate teams will be informed of the selection results by November 30, 2023.
Competition Dates and Locations:
- 42nd edition: Bredene, Belgium, from February 25 to March 3, 2024 (Francophone)
- 43rd edition: Bredene, Belgium, from February 25 to March 3, 2024 (Anglophone)
- 44th edition: Pokhara, Nepal, from April 19 to April 26, 2024 (Anglophone)
Conditions:
- Teams consist of three students from a university or similar institution.
- All participants must be registered students at their institution.
- Participants should have or be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Age limit: Below 30 years.
- Strong knowledge of public international law is required.
- Participants must be first-time entrants to the competition.
- Registration Fees: The registration fee is 1250 € (euros) per team, due by December 23, 2023.
