A team from the Kutafin Moscow State Law University won the 2021 Russian ICC Moot Court Competition. The MSAL team faced Novosibirsk State University (the 2nd place) and Lomonosov Moscow State University (the 3rd place) in the online Championship Round on April 16. According to the organizers, National Research University Higher School of Economics, the team of Moscow State University took away three of the five prizes for the best performers (and two more went to Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg). Two of the best memorials were presented by the team of St. Petersburg State University, and one- by the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The Model of the International Criminal Court is an annual competition in international criminal law held by the Higher School of Economics.The competition is held in the form of an imitation of a trial in one of the chambers of the International Criminal Court, the participants represent the positions of the defense, the Office of the Prosecutor and the victims or a third State. The plot of the case is always connected with topical issues of international criminal law, issues of international law and international humanitarian law.
The competition is held in Russian and consists of two stages. After the case is published in November, the teams prepare written memorials until February. The oral presentation stage takes place in April and consists of qualifying rounds, semi-finals among 2 groups of teams and the final.
