The purpose of developing institutes of higher educations is to provide the talented individuals with the access to the academic education in the specialized areas essential for the country. There is no doubt that universities play a fundamental role in achieving such a goal.
Through the efforts of a group of university scholars, having long experiences in teaching and running the academic institutions, and having obtained the authorization from the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, Khatam university, a nonprofit non-governmental Institute of Higher Education, was established in 1996, admitting students in four majors at master’s level. However, due to certain obstacles, the institute stopped admitting students from 2006 to 2011. In 2012, with the support of Pasargad Bank and in collaboration with a group of dignitaries, such as Dr. Majid Ghasemi, the managing director of Pasragad Bank in particular, as one of the founders, the institute resumed its educational activities with a novel perspective, admitting students only after complying with the academic standards and preparing the respective infrastructures for the appropriate training environment; laboratories, library, etc.
The institute started its academic year, 2016-17, with 1650 students in two fields at undergraduate, thirty seven fields at postgraduate, and one at Ph.D. Level.
Based on the ranking system of non-governmental institutes, implemented by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, Khatam university was granted the first level among the 269 non-governmental educational institutes.
Thanks to the brilliant educational records; establishment of new faculties and employment of full-time faculty members, Khatam institute was upgraded to the university level by the decision of the Council of Higher Education Development in 2015, resulting in setting up the faculties of Technology and Engineering, Management and Finance, Humanities, and Art and Architecture.
