Now, when all participants have submitted their Written Submissions, it’s time to get ready for the Regional Rounds!
The first one is scheduled for 6-8 March 2022. For more details on the dates of the Regional Rounds, please click here.
This year the competition will address the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights in the context of climate change and natural disasters. Each team will have to prepare written submissions for both the applicants and the Respondent State, and then argue the case before the panel of judges. Following the Regional Rounds in March, the Final Oral Round will take place in Strasbourg at the Palais de l’Europe and the European Court of Human Rights on 16-20 May 2022.
The Final Oral Round is the last stage, where the best 18 teams compete against each other. Every member of the winning team will be invited for the traineeship at the European Court of Human Rights. This is an international court set up in 1959. It rules on individual or State applications alleging violations of the civil and political rights set out in the European Convention on Human Rights. Since 1998 it has sat as a full-time court and individuals can apply to it directly.

The Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition (formerly known as the ELSA Human Rights Moot Court Competition) is organized annually by the European Law Student Association (ELSA) in cooperation with the Council of Europe. The competition simulates the procedures of complaints to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and provides a unique opportunity for students to experience the principles and implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights firsthand.
