Each year, the Martin Ennals Award provides recognition and protection to human rights defenders who strive for freedom, justice, equality and accountability in their communities and countries, often at the risk of their own lives.
Every year, three Finalists of the Martin Ennals Award are selected by a Jury composed of ten of the world’s leading human rights NGOs.
This year the Award Jury named Pham Doan Trang from Vietnam, Dr. Daouda Diallo from Burkina Faso and Abdul-Hadi Al-Khawaja from Bahrain as the 2022 Martin Ennals Laureates.
The Award Ceremony is held in Geneva, Switzerland, and gathers both local and international audiences every year for a unique celebration of human rights defenders.
However, The 2022 Award Ceremony is postponed to June 2.
The latest outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic does not allow for us to welcome the Laureates and the public in optimal conditions. Instead, we will adapt our training and advocacy activities so that we can continue to support the Laureates throughout the winter, explains Isabel de Sola, Director of the Martin Ennals Foundation.
